Breaking records is Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree's new agenda.

To start 2007, Crabtree has 27 receptions for 294 yards and five touchdowns, all which lead the team.

"He's off to a good start," Tech football coach Mike Leach said. "He adjusts well - adjusted to playing receiver well. Just has a good sense of space, getting where he needs to be and does a good job."

Crabtree also has broken multiple school records in the first two games of the season. Against SMU, he was the first freshman in Tech history to score three touchdowns in a season opener. He has the most receptions in three quarters with 12, and he is the first freshman ever to have multiple touchdowns in his first two games.

His 15 receptions against UTEP also ranks first among freshman for a single game and tied Robert Johnson for most by any receiver in a single game.

"He's an athlete," saftey Joe Garcia said. "It's really enjoyable watching him play. We talk all the time. I just enjoy watching him play."

Crabtree was formerly a quarterback at Dallas Carter High School in Dallas and a top-50 basketball recruit. Crabtree's move to receiver adds to a youth movement at wide receiver for the Red Raiders.

Linebacker Ty Linder said it is better to watch Crabtree progress rather than defend him in practice.

"It's nice to watch him do those things against somebody else other than ourselves," Linder said.

Crabtree passed Donnie Hart for 10th all-time in single-game yards with 188 against UTEP. In the SMU game, Crabtree was one touchdown shy of tying Derek Dorris for most touchdowns in a game by a Tech player. His 188 yards against UTEP also fell short of the most by a freshman with 46 yards.

Leach said it is difficult to compare Crabtree's start to past Tech players in the Leach era.

"It's hard to say," he said. "There's been several. Wes Welker did some good things. He's a redshirt freshman; Wes was a true freshman. I don't know, it's hard to compare."
